For an alternative to skirts, why not wear your favourite corset with our new wide-leg chiffon trousers. Flattering on all shapes, these can be teamed with a tailored jacket and stilettos for a seductive take on corporate chic.

Prom season is nearly upon us and how better to wow your friends and that special boy than in this electric blue shot taffeta corset and matching long skirt with train. For a sophisticated and elegant look, accessorise with our black satin opera gloves and dazzling jet black crystal necklace.

If you are in the UK you have probably heard about the fuss on the good old Beeb (BBC). Well here is the lady, Georgina Baillie, wearing her FairyGothMother corset…

Corsets. The word alone conjures up vintage images of stiffly brocaded Elizabethans, elegant Edwardians and starched Victorians, burlesque ruffles, the saloon girls of the Wild West, buxom wenches and a whole host of other feminine archetypes. And yet, most people will only be familiar with the high street equivalent; the bustier or the basque. If you’ve ever worn one of these, you’ll have noticed that the plastic boning bends and distorts every time you sit down, or breaks and digs into your ribs.

Fortunately, our lovingly made, steel-boned corsets are really quite different. We’re passionate about corsetry at FairyGothMother, and are committed to offering you beautiful and comfortable corsetry of exceptional quality, to emphasise your feminine curves and create a fantastic silhouette which will make you feel a million dollars.

“So, what’s the difference between these high-street ‘corset’ basques and FairyGothMother steel-boned corsets?”

Forget uncomfortable plastic boning, wear-once-and-throw-away basques which fasten with tedious to do up and easily breakable hook-and-eye fastening, ill-fitting cups and stretch fabric which loses its elasticity – our corsets are constructed from sumptuous silks and satins, with heavy-duty lining and steel bones to ensure a perfect hourglass figure, which cinches the waist around 4″ whilst flattening the tummy, shaping the hips and boosting the bust. Instead of hook-and-eye, we use steel busks which clip at the front, and fully adjustable back lacing for a perfect fit. Of course, we cater to different preferences, and also offer a range of starter corsets which reduces the waist by 2-3″, and specialist curve-enhancing styles which can take 6″ off your waist, without damage to the corset or your body – and yes, you can still breathe!

Over time, your corset will mould itself to your body, which is why we recommend never letting anybody else borrow your corset for a night out, and if you’ve just bought a new corset for a special evening out, it’s advisable to wear it for a couple of hours for a few days before the event, so that both you and the corset can get used to each other. Every time you wear put it on, you should be able to lace it up even tighter, so do make sure you choose a corset which is at least four inches smaller than your natural waist, or it will soon be too big for you.

Corsets are often the ideal outfit solution for special occasions, such as weddings, proms, balls, formal events, concert performances, burlesque shows… The list goes on. As well as being part of an outfit ensemble, corsets can also be worn underneath clothing, and for this, we offer a particularly thin range, available in white, cream, nude and black, and will be able to advise you on how to make sure your corset is invisible underneath your dress. 	Underbust Corsets give an hourglass silhouette by reducing the waist and midsection, thereby emphasizing the feminine shape. From our teeny tiny corset belt all the way to longline underbusts which begin just under the bust line and curve over the hips and all our corsets in between, we have a style to fit any body shape. Ideal for those who prefer to wear a bra rather than be supported by an overbust corset, or for wear underneath outfits with structured cups, underbust corsets are great either over a dress, with a shirt and skirt or trousers, or on their own as a lingerie piece.

We have had so many compliments on our deep satin frilled knickers with their cascades of ruffles and pretty bows, we couldn’t resist turning them into their own range. Complete with matching bras and corsets, please welcome the newest additions to our Lulu and Lush lingerie collection.

	Vamp it up with our Showgirl set, in classic black satin with red trim on the ruffles and finished with red satin ribbon bows. This lingerie set is great on its own, or give it a Burlesque twist with a red underbust with black ribbon lacing, perhaps with a black suspender belt and black seamed stockings to complete the look. You could even dress it up with one of our drop crystal beaded necklaces for a fabulous cabaret-style outfit. The bra is available from size 32B up to 36DD, and the knickers from size S to XL.
Hop on the nautical trend with our ‘Hello Sailor!’ royal blue and white set, ideal on their own or perhaps teamed with a white underbust laced in royal blue ribbon, and a white suspender belt underneath the knickers to hold up some some seamed stockings. This bra, as well as the Showgirl bra, features padded, underwired cups, which along with the frilled bust line, emphasise and boost the cleavage. In royal blue with white trim to the ruffles, the bra and knickers are both adorned with flirty white bows, and are available in the same size range as the Showgirl set.
	For those of you who love the sailorgirl look but love our frilly knickers, we have now added nautical blue with white bows to our ever-expanding range of colours. We are back from the Goodwood Revival Festival (more about that soon!) and have been busy decorating and settling in to our brand new studio and office, which we’re still really excited about so you’ll probably be sick of hearing about it soon! We’re staying at our Old Spitalfields Market boutique so you don’t need to update your address books, but this does mean that suddenly we have lots more space.

Brighton-based Valkyrie Corsets‘ beautifully handmade new collection is ideal for the gorgeous summer weather (or at least to cheer yourself up when you’re stuck indoors because it’s randomly started hailing again!) and our picks include the two cute longline underbusts in mint green polka dot cotton with white ribbon and lace trim, and baby pink gingham with floral print, again with white ruffles and ribbon trim. The underbust looks lovely teamed either with our Lulu and Lush white, baby pink or aqua frilly knickers, or with the chemise, petticoat and bloomer set pictured. We also love their burlesque underbust with unique ruffled hip panels and contrast bone casing, which goes perfectly with Lulu and Lush‘s deep frilled satin knickers. The corset is pictured here in white but also available in the essential cabaret satin colours of red and purple, both with black trim.

For smaller busted ladies, the frilled overbust with padded cups is ideal, as the padding, frills and centre bow all draw the eye to the neckline and give the illusion of a fuller bust. Already available in baby pink with silver cherry blossom panels, the corset proved so popular we now offer it in black or white, with matching ruffles and pretty ribbon bow. For larger cupped ladies, their cherry blossom longline overbust, in either blue or red, is a versatile underwear or eveningwear piece. This week we’ve added a selection of cocktail dresses ideal for summer garden parties or a day at the races, and some more formalwear ideas for summer evening events.

We’ve picked three different styles of dress so there’s something suitable for everyone, whatever your shape or colouring. The flattering stretch fabric of our ‘Mayfair‘ dress combined with its slashed v-front neckline means that this dress is both comfortable yet glamorous, and ideal for the vixens amongst us. This dress can also be worn with a waist cincher or an underbust corset for an even more dramatic look, and is available in the classic pin-up colours of red and black. Our delicate, floaty party dress, in satin with chiffon overlays, is flirty yet pretty and innocent-looking. With its fitted waist and flared out skirt, this dress is great for pear-shapes and for showing off tiny waists. Available in the pastel colours of pale blue, ivory or baby pink, the dress features a beautiful black lace overlay on the bust, pretty eyelash lace trim and is finished off with a black dupion silk bow at the back. Our halterneck ‘Connie’ dress features a plunging neckline in a summery, floral fabric, ideal for emphasising the bust. The high waistband in hot pink combined with the stretch black pencil skirt elongates the legs and gives a perfect hourglass silhouette. Of course, these dresses are all strictly limited edition, so there’s much less chance of an embarrassing encounter with someone wearing the same dress as you than with an outfit from the high street!

Our favourite colours for eveningwear outfits this week are dusky antique pinks and regal purple raw silks. The glamourous longline overbust with its straight neckline and sparkling sequin lace trim is ideal for smaller busts and looks fantastic when put with our black chiffon ‘Chicago’ skirt, which can be trimmed in matching ribbon. The skirt features ribbon ties which means the front can be hitched up to show a little leg, or left down for a more demure look. Our floaty chiffon dress features a fitted bodice and satin hipband, and a ribbon-laced back without the steel-boned cinching of a corset. The dramatic tiered skirt will be sure to get you noticed at any event, whether you choose the dress in antique pink, fuchsia, black, or aqua. If you have a larger bust but adore the purple raw silk of the longline overbust, don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten about you – renowned corsetiers Vollers have made a purple silk overbust with a sweetheart neckline and larger cups, with an optional matching skirt in silk, which is ruched at the front and cut high at the back, to show off the attached black petticoat underneath.

What could be a more perfect time to tie the knot with your loved one, than when the sun is shining and the weather is beautiful and warm? Most marriages take place between May and August, so here are some ideas for this season for the perfect romantic summer wedding.

These overbust buskless corset basques with matching skirts are ideal for weddings as they provide a fabulous cinched waist and support for the bust whilst still giving the appearance of being a one-piece dress. Corsets are, of course, adjustable, so you can be loosened or tightened a small amount in order to accommodate a little weight lost or gained in between choosing your outfit and your wedding day without the need for costly alterations. The basques are fully steel boned, just like all our corsets, and so won’t bend out of shape like cheaper, plastic-boned versions. They are designed to be a little more flexible than our regular corsets, suitable for all-day wear, including sitting down for the wedding breakfast, and all the delicious food you’re going to eat!

Traditional brides will love the ivory silk dupion and satin from which these summer wedding outfits are created. The large bow on the Papillon corset bustier is very flattering on the bust, whilst the concealed zip allows the corset to be fastened easily before the lacing is tightened at the back. The Papillon outfit is completed by a matching floor-length skirt which is fitted at the hips, flares out at the knee into a fishtail shape, and has a small train as a finishing bridal touch. Our ruched-front corset bustier is simple and elegant, also with a concealed zip and a matching shorter, summery pleated skirt which flares to an a-line at the waist, flattering the hips. The sweetheart neckline of the third outfit is always a popular choice, shown here in ivory satin with a pretty bow at the empire line, which can be made in a contrasting colour if required. The flared skirt sits just below the knee, so you can keep cool without worrying about upsetting any prudish relatives, and the skirt can be worn with or without a petticoat underneath depending on whether you prefer a more traditional or ’50s look.

You may want to both keep with traditional bridal colours such as ivory or white and add a touch of personality to your special outfit, so how about adding a splash of colour? A long, ivory silk, fishtail skirt would be perfect with our deep red overbust corset with a covered front busk and halter straps. The covered busk means that the silver clips at the front of the corset are hidden, which is ideal if your jewellery is made of gold or pearls. Adding a matching ivory silk halter tie brings the outfit together perfectly, as well as providing a little cover above the arms. For a more fun take on the ruched corset bustier, choose a white tulle skirt and the corset in a deep red, which can come laced at the back with white ribbon to match the skirt. It doesn’t just have to be deep red or silk – we have a large selection of satins, prints, brocades and taffetas in many colours, so please do pop in to see us or send us an email if you would like any of these outfits in a different colour or fabric.

We have met so many disheartened brides who’ve found their dream wedding dress but however much they breathe in just can’t get the zip to do up that last couple of inches! Never fear – although the beautiful and detailed corsets above wouldn’t be very helpful under a dress, we have a selection of cheat corsets and shaping girdles to give you a gorgeous, smooth hourglass figure under your outfit. Chosen with care, nobody need ever know that it’s the steel bones doing all the work! These corsets have been chosen especially for their strength yet slenderness, as bulky fabrics and trims would be much more difficult to hide underneath a dress. Underbust corsets are great for dresses with low backs or structured cups, or if you would feel more comfortable wearing a bra underneath the dress. Our longline underbust sits just under the bust and curves over the hips, pulling in the waist and covering any unsightly bulges, or if you’d prefer just to have the waist reduction try our ever-popular shorter underbust instead. There are several shapes of overbust corset which would be suitable – our bestseller sweetheart neckline corset shown above, our version for larger busts, or the deep plunge overbust for very daring dresses! Of course, all these corsets are available in underwear colours of plain ivory, white and peach as well. The Vargas dress by Kiss Me Deadly completely destroys any preconceptions of shapewear being unsexy. The recent beautiful weather has got us all a little flower-crazy here at FairyGothMother, and we’ve been filling our shop with daisies and roses. We thought we’d share some springtime joy with you, our lovely customers, and so for one week only we’re offering our ever-popular Daisy corset, and our new favourite, the Rose corset, at only £99 instead of the usual £195!

Steel-boned as with all our corsets, both the Daisy and the Rose fasten at the front with a steel busk, and are fully adjustable at the back either with standard lacing or matching ribbon – black or red for the Daisy, and black or silver for the Rose. We love to hear from our customers, and recently we’ve been inundated with requests from ladies who love their waists cinched, but were after something a little more everyday than an underbust corset, though not as boring as a plain old belt.

So, we put our thinking caps in and got to work, and designed a corset belt small enough to carry in your handbag, easy enough to put on by yourself so you can whip it out of your bag and glam yourself up if you fancy going on a big night out straight after work, and available in three different colours to match any dress you own. Of course, like all our corsets, it’s fully steel boned with a metal busk at the front and back lacing, and at a credit crunching £85, you can even afford to own it in black, white and red!
