Mademoiselle Fred is back with another glamorous, vintage-inspired collection for A/W 2009, currently available online from FairyGothMother and in the UK from their Lulu and Lush boutique in Old Spitalfields Market. From the fabulous retro Betty whose peephole detail at the back gives it a cheeky twist, the seductive tulle of Alicia, to the decadent luxury of the fine French trims on the Virginia, each set is created especially to make any woman feel utterly irresistable.

Betty is a fun, modern take on the classic stretch satin lingerie set, inspired of course by Betty Page. In cream or black satin with contrast stitching, trim and ribbon bows, the full bra, deep knickers and six-strap suspender belt will keep you feeling secure and sexy all day long. Alicia, with its see-through black spotted tulle and ribbon straps and ruffle trim, is for the daring temptress, and Virginia is the epitome of French luxury and elegance. In elegant ivory or deep red with fine black lace overlays, the set is available with a choice of either a pair of skirted knickers or a thong.

Inspired by BBC2’s new costume drama, ‘Desperate Romantics‘, The Daily Telegraph featured an article detailing the delights of Pre-Raphaelite style, involving “swirling robes, chiffon draperies, velvet capes, serpent jewellery, gilded cuffs, metallic sashes, ornamental belts… all the ingredients needed to set the hopeless romantic’s fashion heart ablaze are now laid before us, like the treasures of Nefertiti.”

Our full-length chiffon gown with its delicate beaded bodice encapsulates the look perfectly, and can be made to order either in black or white. The dress is available in size 10 to 20, and is £495. Australian newcomers Little Minx are one of the latest additions to FairyGothMother. Launched in September last year and designed by Ursula Dunne, these lingerie sets are cheeky and cute, created from stretch satin and mesh. The designer herself says, “I have always wanted to design a lingerie label which is high-fashion without the designer price tag”, and she has succeeded - we love Little Minx for their pretty retro designs with attention to detail, fashioned from fabulous fabrics, and for making all this loveliness affordable.

Posh is a three-piece set available in ivory or black silk, with applique bows. The soft bra (£25) has ruched, elasticated straps, and applique bows which are also found on the matching knickers (£20) and deep suspender belt (£27). Bombshell is versatile and pretty, as the bra has gathered ruched tulle over the cups and detachable straps (£25), of course with matching frilled briefs (£14).

Kitten is another of our favourite collections, in super-soft flocked spotted tulle adorned with little bows. Choose from either the babydoll (£46) or the padded underwired bra (£28) with matching boy shorts (£18). From starting online in 1999 and opening our first shop in Camden in 2002 showcasing handpicked collections from corsetiers around the world, we’ve grown and expanded to fill our opulent Spitalfields boutique and become one of the most renowned purveyors of steel-boned corsets. We’ve had so much fun launching our own label, Lulu and Lush, showing off our designs on primetime television, taking part in catwalk shows, dressing celebrities and being featured in the world’s most famous fashion magazines.

FairyGothMother are delighted to welcome on board luxury brand, ‘And God Created Woman’, as featured on Desperate Housewives (series 5, episode 20 I believe!). Founded in 2006 by Nerys Hebdon, their beautiful silk creations are cut with generous proportions for comfort, whilst also cinched at the waist for a touch of glamour.

Their luxurious full length silk kimono robe is available in peach (with plum obi belt), plum (with pink obi belt) or lilac (with silver obi belt) and is bias cut for a stunning fit. The wide-legged silk satin lounge pants in fuchsia have an attached sash which crosses at the back and ties around the waist for a perfect fit. The matching camisole has adjustable speghetti straps, a wide silk trim, and is again cut on the bias to show off the waist. The pants are £150 and the camisole is £110, and they are both avialable in small (UK 8-10), medium (UK 12-14) and large (UK 16-18).

Brighton-based Valkyrie Corsets‘ beautifully handmade new collection is ideal for the gorgeous summer weather (or at least to cheer yourself up when you’re stuck indoors because it’s randomly started hailing again!) and our picks include the two cute longline underbusts in mint green polka dot cotton with white ribbon and lace trim, and baby pink gingham with floral print, again with white ruffles and ribbon trim. The underbust looks lovely teamed either with our Lulu and Lush white, baby pink or aqua frilly knickers, or with the chemise, petticoat and bloomer set pictured. We also love their burlesque underbust with unique ruffled hip panels and contrast bone casing, which goes perfectly with Lulu and Lush’s deep frilled satin knickers. The corset is pictured here in white but also available in the essential cabaret satin colours of red and purple, both with black trim.

For smaller busted ladies, the frilled overbust with padded cups is ideal, as the padding, frills and centre bow all draw the eye to the neckline and give the illusion of a fuller bust. Already available in baby pink with silver cherry blossom panels, the corset proved so popular we now offer it in black or white, with matching ruffles and pretty ribbon bow. For larger cupped ladies, their cherry blossom longline overbust, in either blue or red, is a versatile underwear or eveningwear piece. As well as these gorgeous items, we also stock their raw silk overbust in purple or red (about which we were enthusing last week in our eveningwear post!) and a longline underbust with contrast bone casing, in sky blue cherry blossom fabric.
